What's included

Seasonal fertilizing program

Spring through late fall applications timed to grass growth stages. Includes pre-emergent weed control and broadleaf weed treatment.

Core aeration

We pull plugs to relieve compaction, improve drainage, and let oxygen reach the roots. Best done late summer to early fall.

Slice seeding

Direct seed-to-soil contact via slit cuts. Far higher germination than broadcast seeding — fills in thin and bare areas fast.

Compost top-dressing

A thin layer of screened compost over the whole lawn. Feeds microbes, improves soil structure, thickens turf.

Lime applications

Most Western MA soil runs acidic. Proper pH lets your fertilizer actually work.

Grub control

Targeted grub preventive in late spring. One application usually carries the whole season.

Fertilizing & Lawn Health FAQ

Straight answers to the questions we hear most from Western Mass homeowners.

How much does lawn fertilizing cost in Western MA?

It depends on the lawn's square footage and which steps you want — the core season program plus options like aeration, slice seeding, lime, or grub control. We measure the lawn, price it per application and per season, and put it in writing before anything is applied.

When should I fertilize my lawn in Massachusetts?

Our program starts with a pre-emergent and light feed in early spring, followed by spring, early summer, late summer, and fall applications timed to how the grass is actually growing. The fall feedings matter most for a thick lawn the following year.

What's the difference between liquid and granular fertilizer?

Granular is slow-release — steady feeding over weeks. Liquid is fast-acting but shorter-lived. We use each where it makes sense: granular for the main feedings, liquid for targeted weed control and quick green-ups.

Do I need core aeration every year?

For compacted lawns or heavily-used yards (kids, pets, foot traffic), yes — every 1-2 years. Lighter-use lawns can go longer. If water pools or the soil feels hard, it's time.

What is slice seeding and is it better than broadcast seeding?

Slice seeding uses a machine that cuts narrow furrows and drops seed directly into soil contact. Germination rates are far higher than tossing seed on the surface — it's the fastest way to thicken a thin lawn or fill bare spots.

Is your fertilizing program safe for kids and pets?

Yes. Once the product is watered in and dry, it's fine to be back on the lawn. We leave a service notice after every application with any waiting time that applies, and we're happy to time visits around your schedule.

Do you offer organic lawn care?

Yes. Organic programs use naturally-sourced nitrogen and compost-based feedings. They cost a bit more and green up more gradually, but they build soil over time. Ask when you call and we'll walk you through the tradeoffs.

Why does my lawn get weeds even with fertilizer?

Fertilizer alone won't stop weeds. Our program includes pre-emergent in early spring (stops crabgrass before it sprouts) and broadleaf control during the season. A thick, healthy lawn is the best long-term weed control there is.
